Tadpole in the spotlight

Tadpole in the spotlight

How to setup and take care of a terrarium

First, you will need a tank/container. Your container needs fresh air, so your tadpoles can breathe. The oxygen is pulled into the water from the fresh air.

Second, you need water for your tank. Tap water contains chlorine, which is not good for most wild animals. So, you need to either leave it out in an open container for at least 48 hours, or you can use water conditioner to remove the chlorine.
We have heard that sometimes tap water even dechlorinated is not as successful as fresh pond water, which contains many things to eat.

Third, food is needed in order to keep your tadpoles ALIVE! Tadpoles will eat freshwater shrimp when they are dead, snails?, algae. Tadpoles will eat normal fish food as well. You can purchase tadpole food from the pet store as well.

The new set up.

Some things that are nice additions to a tadpole aquarium:
- gravel (choose a light colour, it is easier to see the dark tadpoles)
- plants can add some nice ambiance to a tank, for real plants you will need some sand or soil for their roots
- rocks can add some nice decor as well
- something to swim through like a fake log, or castle
- filters can help to keep the tank clean and oxygenated

Now we will give some tips to help keep your tank running smoothly!

- you will need to feed your tadpoles enough so they don't starve and not feed too much so that the water becomes rotten

-Your water needs to be clean so there are a few ways to do this:
    - Using a siphon you can suck up a portion of the water, try not to get any tadpoles, then replace it with fresh pond water
   - you can use a filter/aerator to help keep your tank clean
   - try not to stress your tadpoles by taking them out of the tank too often

- Having something like vegetation to let your tadpoles rest on can keep them off the bottom of the tank, where the poop is, they will be happier this way
